iPod Touch JailBreaking

Posted in Mac, Computer Things, Miscellaneous

Afaik, besar file tiap aplikasi hanya sekitar 1MB.
Tapi gua masih belum berani nih buat nge-Jailbreak iPod Touch gua.. hehehe.. Tapi kemaren akhirnya ada member MWI yang duluan mencoba nge-Jailbreak Touch-nya, dan berhasil… sedikit lebih berani lah kalo udah ada yang berhasil.. hehehe.. kewl! :)

Berikut ini F.A.Q singkat tentang Jailbreaking iPod Touch. Di-copy+paste dari forum http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/

What is the Tiff exploit?
The Tiff exploit is about opening the door to jailbreak. In the exploit, a special formatted tiff image is used. The image, when loaded in safari, will change some system settings on the iPhone / iTouch and thus allow jailbreak.

What is jailbreak?
In simple words, it is a process that allows access to the entire filesystem (FS) on the iPhone / iTouch, which means we could install 3rd party apps, mod existing apps and so on.

If I jailbreak my iPod Touch, will I be able to go back to the jailed state?
The jailbreak modified some files on the iPhone / iTouch to enable access to the FS. So in theory, wiping out the HDD on the iPhone / iTouch and restore the firmware should put the iPhone / iTouch back in jailed state.

So what exactly happened after I jailbreak my iPod Touch? Can I still sync with iTunes? Do I need to jailed my iPod Touch to sync with iTunes?
After the iTouch is jailbroken, 3rd party applications could be installed. Installing apps on the iTouch is very simple via installer.app (google it). And of course, syncing with iTunes is possible, but some filename and directory name need to be changed before this happen. Once this is done, the iPod Touch stay in jailbroken state, and syncing with iTunes doesn’t require to jail the iTouch.

  1. I have jailbroken my ipod touch but unable to sync my ipod anymore. As stated on the last entry, syncing is still possible by renaming certain things. What do i need to do, and how, to be able to sync my ipod again?

  2. hello Liam..
in my experience, i never found a problem syncing with iTunes after jailbreaked. The sync still work after i jailbreak the iPod Touch. FYI, i’ve jailbreaked my iPod Touch with 1.1.1 firmware, i don’t know what firmware your iPod Touch.

I suggest you visit the jailbreaking thread on macforum. There’s a lot of troubleshooting after jailbreaked. You will found the link at the end of my post above.

    Good luck. :)
