Since the night I left Rossi Musik, the venue that Pestamikro Vol. 2 was held on friday last week Dec 13th, I really want to write a review on it but honestly I don’t have much free time to do it lately. Pestamikro Vol. 2 was, with doubtless I say, the best indonesia chiptunes gigs ever!

Ok, now it’s 1 am when i write this post, and i’m really sleepy, luckily, there’s a video recap made by Pestamikro’s crew, Audy Erlanda, which is really kind to share the best moments recap in Pestamikro! Definetely nothing, just to show my respect to Angela Gossow, a vocalist of Swedish melodic death metal band, Arch Enemy. This picture also my experimental retouched photo of Angela that taken from the internet. Just type "Angela Gossow" on Google and you’ll easily find the original picture. Picture frame template of Kodak Ektachrome also taken from the internet, but I forget the link. I’m not sure about how Kodak Ektachrome look, it is match with my retouched photo or not, simply I don’t too much think about that.. hehe..

Satu kata saja: Aneh. Eitss, tapi sebentar, walaupun satu kata itu sedikit bermakna negatif, tidak lantas tulisan ini dibuat untuk memaki-maki sebuah film berjudul Electroma. Tidak. reeblog bukan tipikal begitu. Semua yang tertulis disini tentu saja semua yang sang penulis (saya) suka, kalau saya nggak suka, ngapain di-review? hehe. Back to the topic.

Electroma adalah judul sebuah film garapan duo asal prancis, Thomas Bangalter dan Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, yang sangat dikenal di scene musik elektronik sebagai Daft Punk. Dirilis tahun 2007 dan 2008, film ini merupakan film ketiga mereka setelah D.A.F.T dan Interstella 5555. Electroma juga sempat tayang di festival film Cannes, dan hampir sebagian besar penonton saat itu meninggalkan teater tempat film itu diputar sebelum film berakhir. 

Film experimental ini bercerita tentang dua robot (mirip dua personil Daft Punk) yang mengunjungi sebuah kota kecil untuk merubah diri menjadi manusia. Scene dibuka dengan dua robot menaiki sebuah mobil dengan plat bertuliskan “HUMAN“, menuju ke sebuah kota kecil. Mereka berdua berniat untuk merubah diri menjadi manusia di sebuah fasilitas eksperimental. Dua robot ini dilumuri cairan latex yang menutupi helm mereka menjadi sebuah wajah manusia. Penduduk kota yang semuanya adalah robot, dengan atribut helm yang sama dengan Daft Punk gunakan, marah dengan apa yang mereka lakukan, sampai akhirnya mereka berdua dikejar-kejar oleh penduduk lokal kota kecil tersebut. Latex yang menempel di helm mereka pun luntur karena panas matahari. Film berakhir dengan dua robot tersebut yang bunuh diri di tengah padang pasir gersang. Satu robot bunuh diri dengan mengaktifkan tombol ’self-destruct’ di punggungnya, dan satu robot lagi bunuh diri dengan membakar diri.

Film dengan durasi hampir 70 menit ini total tanpa dialog. Beberapa scene juga sangat panjang durasinya. Cenderung membosankan. Ekspektasi awal saya ketika menonton film ini, bahwa saya akan menemukan lagu-lagu Daft Punk diputar di film ini. Saya salah. Tidak ada satupun lagu Daft Punk diputar di film ini, bahkan lagu-lagu yang menjadi back song film ini merupakan lagu orang lain, yang bukan lagu Daft Punk. 

Film ini sebetulnya sangat sederhana. Plotnya standard. Hampir tak ada yang spesial dari film ini. Cenderung membosankan, sangat surealis, absurd dan seperti yang saya bilang, aneh. Tapi justru itulah menariknya! Saya melihat banyak sekali scene-scene yang mencoba menggunakan bahasa visual yang sebetulnya sederhana, tapi itulah esensi bahasa visual. Dari awal sebenarnya film ini sudah mencoba bertutur visual. Sepinya suasana padang pasir gersang, bebatuan tebing yang membisu seolah membentuk sosok tertentu, sampai ke hal yang sangat sederhana, plat mobil bertuliskan “HUMAN“. Tanpa ada sound effect, tanpa ada musik, tanpa ada dialog, aspek-aspek itu membentuk ambient tertentu yang saya pikir pas untuk film ini. Semua visual ditampilkan apa adanya, tanpa ada campur tangan manipulasi teknologi. Jikapun ada, hal tersebut tidak dimaksudkan untuk memanipulasi visual dan membuat ‘efek spekta’ dari film ini. Oh ya, jika anda juga mendengarkan rilisan Daft Punk, pasti anda sudah mengerti apa yang mereka maksudkan dengan menuliskan “HUMAN“ pada plat mobil tersebut.  

Film ini menjadi perlu bagi mereka yang bosan dengan ke-super-fantastis-an film-film hollywood yang penuh dengan efek dan manipulasi visual. Jujur saya akui, film ini juga tidak terlepas dari Daft Punk sebagai sosok subjek dibalik film ini, yang membentuk pola pikir saya ketika menonton film ini. Sebagaimana juga film-film eksperimental lainnya, film ini ditujukan sebagai alternatif hiburan dan alternatif santapan visual, yang buat saya menjadi stimulus yang membangkitkan ide dan imajinasi.

I’m keeped get amazed and amazed every time I hear to this band. Protest The Hero, a progressive mathcore band from Ontario, Canada, is really get their greatest marking on metal scene. Combining almost all music styles in their music, with unexpected song path that will lead you to “shocking jolting moment with your opened eyes and mouth” I’m still formulating some words to review at their latest album, Fortress. It’s a very cool album. I’m personally recommended it very much.

Video klip ini udah tayang sejak 2 tahun yang lalu sih, tapi bahkan setelah dua tahun berlalu pun saya masih kagum liatnya. Konsepnya sebenernya sederhana, tapi impresinya kuat dan dalem banget. Ada yang tau siapa yang bikin video klip ini? director-nya mungkin?
